STATE BUDGET TO INCREASE LOCAL MUNICIPAL FUNDS IN SENATOR MORAHAN'S DISTRICT

Senator Thomas P. Morahan (R-C-I-WF,New City) today announced the 2008-09 State Budget will include a $135,949 increase in aid for Rockland and Orange County towns and villages in his Senate District.

"I am pleased to have supported increasing this critical funding.Without this action, municipalities in Rockland and Orange would have had no choice but to raise property taxes even higher. These funds will help localities ease the burden of local property taxes and assist them in meeting the needs of their residents," said Senator Morahan. "The increase was part of the public protection and general government budget bills (S.6800-D, S.6806-C) that were passed by the Senate."

Former Governor Eliot Spitzer’s Executive Budget proposed a two percent reduction in Aid and Incentives for Municipalities (AIM) funding. The bill passed by the Senate restores the proposed cut, and also adds an additional $29.6 million statewide.
