Senator Honored at Non-Profit Leadership Summit

Senator Thomas P. Morahan was honored recently at the 2008 Non-Profit Leadership Summit sponsored by the Institute for Non-Profits, an organization administered by the Cornell Cooperative Extension of Rockland. During the event, representatives of about 250 organizations applauded as Senator Morahan was recognized for his support of Rockland's nonprofit community throughout his public life, in the county Legislature, the state Assembly and the state Senate.

"We recognize you for the many years of support, service and leadership that you have provided to Rockland’s non-profit community," noted Paul Trader, Executive Director of the Cornell University Cooperative Extension, Rockland.

Non-profits in Rockland feed the homebound, provide a variety of services for our neighbors with disabilities, teach reading, offer career counseling, care for our children, shelter victims of domestic abuse and even teach our teachers.

The Cornell Cooperative Extension and Institute for Non-Profits estimates that there are hundreds of not-for-profit groups in the county, with about half incorporated with 501(c)(3) tax-exempt charity designation. It is estimated that over 400 million dollars flow into Rockland’s economy from these organizations, as well as employment opportunities for thousands of residents.
